DONG Energy is changing its name to Ørsted

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to inform you that DONG Energy (the developer behind Hornsea Project Three Offshore Wind Farm, which is in the process of preparing for a consent application in 2018) will become Ørsted on 6 November 2017. The recent divestment of our upstream oil and gas business means that we have become too green for our name and, DONG, originally short for Danish Oil and Natural Gas, is no longer an accurate description of who we are, or who we want to be.

As DONG Energy, we have been instrumental in making renewable energy cheaper, and as Ørsted, we will continue to drive the price down for new offshore wind. The recent auction results show that the cost of offshore wind has more than halved since 2013. Ørsted will be at the heart of the energy transition in the UK, from generation and storage, through to providing smart energy solutions. However, building renewables is about more than just reducing our carbon footprint; it is also about giving people the skills and incentives they need to transition into the green economy.

Hans Christian Ørsted, a Danish scientist, discovered electromagnetism in 1820, helping to lay the foundation for the way we produce power today. His curiosity, dedication, and interest in nature are essential principles as we continue the transformation from black to green energy.

IMPORTANTLY: We will continue to develop Hornsea Project Three as Ørsted and still anticipate submitting our Development Consent Order application in 2018, aside from the developer name, and updated branding, no other elements are set to be affected by this rebranding. A newsletter containing details of the name change will be published on our website and issued to local communities shortly to avoid any potential confusion.
